Biomedical Paper on Responsible AI in Clinical Care, Led by WoundScribe Founder, Ranks in Top 5% for Citation Influence

Research grounding generative AI in validated clinical knowledge sets a foundation for trustworthy clinical AI.

Health systems need AI they can trust at the bedside, not just AI that's impressive in a demo.”

DELAWARE, DE, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- WoundScribe AI, developer of an AI wound care platform for hospitals and health systems, today announced that a peer-reviewed study led by its Founder and CEO, Shayan Mashatian, ranks in the top 5% of publications for citation influence. The ranking is based on the paper's provisional Relative Citation Ratio (RCR), the field-normalized citation metric used by the National Institutes of Health.

The study, Building Trustworthy Generative Artificial Intelligence for Diabetes Care and Limb Preservation, was published in the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology. It was among the early work showing how large language models can be built into trustworthy medical applications. The research began in late 2023, a few months after GPT-4 became generally available, and about a year and a half before advanced reasoning models such as o3 were released.

The paper addressed a central challenge for clinical AI: grounding model outputs in validated clinical knowledge. The stakes are especially high in diabetic foot care, where timely, accurate guidance can help prevent avoidable amputations.

"Health systems need AI they can trust at the bedside, not just AI that's impressive in a demo," said Shayan Mashatian, Founder and CEO of WoundScribe AI. "Grounding every output in validated clinical knowledge shaped this paper, and it's built into every agent in WoundScribe. Our goal is AI that co-cares with clinicians, not AI that adds to their workload."

From peer-reviewed research to hospital wound care

The milestone reflects WoundScribe's continued commitment to bringing evidence-based research to market. Those principles now power WoundScribe, a fourth-generation wound care documentation software and clinical decision support platform.

Many hospitals still run wound care on an EMR plus a patchwork of single-function tools, with separate logins and data that never connects. WoundScribe's unified AI platform replaces those tools with one wound record and one login. Six AI agents work inside the clinical workflow to co-care with clinicians: ambient scribe, wound imaging, charting, coding, healing trajectory, and patient education. Together they flag whether a wound is healing, stalling, or worsening while there is still time to act.

A business model built for health systems

Per-seat licensing makes it costly for hospitals to give AI tools to every nurse, wound care specialist, and physician who treats wounds. WoundScribe's AI-powered wound care free EMR, with unlimited seats, so a hospital can bring its entire wound care team onto one platform. Health systems pay only for on-demand charting, when the AI drafts a chart, so costs track patient volume rather than headcount.
