New detour route for on-ramp closure at westbound U.S. 20/U.S. 75 on-ramp to northbound I-29 now in place
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Sept. 29, 2026 — Crews have made a change to the detour route for the westbound U.S. 20/U.S. 75 on-ramp to northbound I-29 closure in Sioux City, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 3 Office.
The on-ramp is currently closed so crews can complete a bridge deck overlay project and replace barrier rail and overhang on the bridge. The northbound I-29 ramp will be closed until the project is completed in mid-November, weather permitting.
During this closure, drivers should follow a marked detour route that takes them west to Nebraska and the Kingsbury full-clover interchange (U.S. 77/U.S. 75) where they will turn and head back towards Iowa and exit at northbound I-29.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
