Jackson, MS –
In recognition of the men and women who have served in the military, the Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES) will host a special Veterans Day Program on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, honoring our dedicated veterans.
This year’s program will feature executive members of the MDES leadership team, the Ridgeland High School Air Force JROTC led by Major Shawn Horn, the Jackson State University Brass Quintet Ensemble led by Dr. Ramon Jackson, and remarks from Brigadier General Scott Wiggins, U.S. Air Force, Retired. The program will recognize the service and dedication of veterans while highlighting the ongoing efforts of MDES to support their transition into meaningful civilian careers.
During the Veterans Day Ceremony, MDES will recognize Onré Talbert, recipient of the Veteran Employment Coordinator of the Year Award, for his outstanding commitment to connecting Mississippi veterans with meaningful employment opportunities and workforce resources. Working in partnership with WIN Job Center staff across Mississippi, Veteran Employment Coordinators help ensure veterans receive priority service, individualized career assistance, and access to the employment, training, and support resources they have earned through their service to our nation.
As part of MDES’s commitment to Mississippi’s veterans, the agency offers services designed to help veterans successfully reenter, navigate, and succeed in the civilian workforce. These services include:
Personalized Career Guidance – One‑on‑one assistance from trained professionals who understand the unique backgrounds, strengths, and needs of veterans.
Job Search and Job Matching Services – Direct support in identifying employment opportunities that align with veterans’ skills, experience, and professional goals.
Resume Development and Interview Preparation – Guidance on effectively translating military experience into civilian language and preparing for employer interviews.
Training and Education Resources – Connections to approved training programs, apprenticeships, upskilling opportunities, and workforce certifications.
Priority of Service – Veterans and eligible spouses receive priority access to all MDES employment and training programs.
Specialized Veteran Representatives – Staff dedicated to assisting veterans with qualifying barriers to employment, including disabled veterans or those in rural and underserved communities.
These services work together to ensure veterans receive the support, recognition, and resources necessary to build successful careers after military service.
“Our veterans bring extraordinary leadership, skill, and resilience into the workforce,” said Dr. Bill Ashley, Executive Director of MDES. “Our commitment goes beyond honoring their service; it is about providing the tools and personalized support they need to succeed in their civilian careers. We remain committed to ensuring that every veteran has access to the opportunities they deserve.”
Kevin Lamberth, U.S. Air Force Brigadier General (Ret.) and Director of Veteran Workforce Programs, added, “Mississippi’s veterans have contributed greatly to our communities and our nation. MDES is proud to strengthen the support we offer, ensuring that each veteran receives comprehensive assistance tailored to their goals. Together, we are dedicated to honoring their service and helping them transition confidently into the next phase of their careers.”
